"My experience at Shear Dimensions in West Milford raises extremely serious concerns about their professionalism, judgment, and treatment of customers. After unintentionally leaving my coat at the salon, I returned on three separate occasions over the course of a week to retrieve it. Each time, staff refused to return my own property and told me I would have to ‘come back when the owner is here.’ No legitimate explanation was provided, and no effort was made to resolve the situation despite the coat clearly belonging to me. When I spoke with the owner directly, she repeated that I would have to come back when she was there, rather than authorizing her staff to simply return my coat. Without any evidence, I was met with insinuations that I may have taken another customer’s coat. The tone used toward me felt dismissive and accusatory, and the assumptions made about me were deeply inappropriate and raised concerns about how certain customers may be viewed or treated. A responding officer from the West Milford Police Department had already informed the salon that they had no legal authority to withhold my belongings and no basis to treat me as if I had done something wrong. Despite clear direction from law enforcement, staff continued to refuse to release my property until the same officer had to personally intervene again and retrieve my coat on my behalf. It is extremely troubling that a business would disregard police guidance, refuse to release a customer’s property multiple times, and create such an adversarial experience over an easily verifiable mistake. I have filed formal complaints with the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs, the NJ State Board of Cosmetology & Hairstyling, and the NJ Division on Civil Rights so this incident is thoroughly documented at the state level. Based on my experience, I strongly urge others to exercise extreme caution before choosing this salon."
